All over Rome, radiators wait for a date on the calendar, not for the weather.
A country with a date for warmth
A national decree splits Italy into six climate zones and sets when home heating may run. Milan from October 15, Rome and Florence from November 1, Naples from November 15.
Rome waited longer this year
To cut smog, Rome moved its start to November 15, with at most 11 hours a day and homes kept at 19°C, about 66°F.
One for the street, one for the room
Italian women take the coat off at the door and are already dressed for a cool house: wool at the body, an open neck, a scarf for outside.
A short-sleeve sweater
Wool and cashmere, made in Italy. Warm where it counts, and the sleeves slide under any coat with nothing to roll up.
Dressed for the room
When the radiators finally hum, nobody in Rome changes a thing. They were ready.
